Members set up staging for the show on the Saturday afternoon and in the evening the admin preparation commenced and some exhibitors' birds were entered. On Sunday, work began around 6.30 am with disinfectant mats being prepared again on tables for the cages and on the floor. The majority of exhibitors entered their birds between 7 am and 8.15 am which was quite hectic. Judging began around 9 am with 6 judges (usually 8 but two could not attend).
It was a busy but happy show with many SBS members assisting and stewarding. Members of the public could enter after 2 pm when they were given a Catalogue of Exhibitors and the Award Sheet. There were also two very successful raffle stalls, tombola and the sales table for Orego-Stim. There was a lot of interest in the product and it proved very popular and sold out quickly. The overall winner for 2008 was the English partnership of T & A Luke from Preston who won Best in Show and Best Any Age in Show and Best Young Bird in Show which were both Cinnamon Blue.
Hens. There were 982 birds and 5 teams entered but on the day this was reduced to 813 which is still a good entry. The show finished at 4.30 pm when exhibitors lifted their birds and helpers took down and loaded the staging into the hire van. The hall was cleared and exhibitors were on their way home by 5.30pm - tired after a long day but happy - some more than others!!
