 Australian Pigeon Fancier Magazine Orego-Stim advert 

It has now been just over twelve months since I first made contact with Meriden Animal Health in the UK regarding their product 'Orego-Stim'.  It arrived here in January 2010 and I have used it basically every day since.  I say basically as I withdrew it on those rare occasions when I treated my birds with antibiotics or treated for cocci.

Meriden stipulates that 'Orego-Stim is compatible with all products such as grits, vitamins and minerals' and, as such, I have used it.  Recently, I was to contact their representative in the UK to get further clarification on it's compatibility with medications and was assured that it is safe and can be used with medications such as Baycox and antibiotics such as Doxycycline which means that fanciers do not have to withhold it should there be a need to treat their birds.

Let me go back a little.  I first became aware of this product via several English pigeon publications that were loaned to me by local fancier Ted Jones.  Ted has a mate in the UK who regularly send him all the latest journals.  From here I started to research the net and eventually made contact with one of Meriden's representatives who was very helpful.

Quite a few e-mails transpired between Meriden's representative and myself with regards the size of the Australian Pigeon market and whom I thought might be the best and most suitable local supplier, to which I provided a list of several people that I thought would be interested, able and reliable to do so, of which the APFA (Australian Pigeon Fancier's Association) was one.

Anyway, going back to the purpose of this article, which is not meant to be an advertisment to promote this product, only that I believe so strongly in it's benefits and that I have thoroughly tested, used and monitored it's results over a twelve month period, thought I should provide readers with what I had observed.

When I commenced the use of this product it was towards the end of the breeding season 2009/10, my stock birds were raring their third round of young, the first thing I noticed (and this was in the first 12 hours of using it) was a remarkable improvement in the birds droppings.  The droppings of the squeakers in the nest could best be described as perfect, firm, drier than normal and all that nice nut-brown colour.

Over the next week there seemed to be a remarkable change within the activity of the stock birds, they were more lively and fed their youngsters with what could be described as renewed vigour, with all the loft droppings being exceptional and uniform for that time of year which is generally quite hot and humid.

I was soon on the phone to a few select friends to tell them of my experience and to encourage them to purchase a bottle to see if they noticed what I had.  The reports back were that they were amazed at how quick they saw a change to their birds loft activity and especially their droppings.

The next stage of observation was once the birds commenced to moult.  My experience was that the birds seemed to moult more uniformly; their feathering was supple and shiny and their droppings remained uniform in all aspects.  I could not have been any happier with their general health right the way through the moult.  Visitors to the loft often commentated on how well they looked.  Once through the moult there always seemed to be an abundance of 'down feathers' in the corner of the loft and stuck to those perfectly formed droppings.

When I administer vitamins, which is generally twice a week, I have mixed it with Orego-Stim with no trouble at all.  The birds will drink this product with no hesitation and once they have grown accustomed to it seem to prefer the addition of Orego-Stim to their drinking water. 

Being a totally natural product it is important to use this product within 6 months of opening, as it will lose it's natural benefit with age even if stored in the fridge as it contains no preservatives of any kind, besides I believe the cost is minimal with the dose rate of this product being 10ml per 2.5 litres of water.  Therefore a 1 litre bottle will make up 250 litres of treated drinking water.  If you were to weigh up the cost of administering many of the other products such as probiotics etc, the cost of using Orego-Stim would far outweigh them.

Keep in mind that this product is a totally 100% natural product used widely around the world by many champion fanciers.  The Loft Manager of H.M. The Queen in the UK also uses and endorses Orego-Stim and I am sure this would not be done lightly.

It is my opinion and recommendation that before using this product, you ensure your birds are completely healthy.  Keep in mind that this product is not a cure for anything, but with it's regular daily use will assist in keeping your birds in top form all year round at a lot cheaper cost than medicating.

Orego-Stim works by cleansing and replenishing the gut lining to improve the birds overall health and fitness, provides silkier feather quality, maximises intestinal health and helps prove and mantain a healthy immune system.  Those of you that have access to the Internet and would like to obtain further information can go to www.meriden-ah.com or www.orego-stim.com.

Some fanciers, including myself, have noticed a remarkable drop in the evidence that our birds are affected by coccidiosis with the evidence of continued dry droppings even when the humidity, due to wet damp weather, is high.  Remember that prevention is better than cure and generally cheaper as well.

Those of you that have read my earlier article, to do with pigeon health and well-being, will have noticed that I am always looking for natural alternatives to maintain our birds health.  That is not to say that there will never be a time when the use of medications to cure a problem should not be used, but only under the strict advice of a veterinarian. 

If you haven't tried this product as yet, I would highly recommend you try a bottle, but remember that it is not a product that should be used once or twice a week but every day, in the same way as many people take yoghurt products such as 'Yakult'.  I feel sure you will be pleased with the results.

It may not make you win more races, although evidence and statements from many overseas fanciers have praised this product for their increased success since using it.  If anything it will assist in you enjoying your hobby more with a little less stress and worry about their overall health and condition.
