Over the past two years, Meriden has used the money usually spent on Christmas cards to make a difference to the lives of two children by sponsoring them through Plan UK.  We are continuing to sponsor Pha and Oussam in 2012 and would like to take this opportunity to update you on their progress.

Pha is now nine years old and is continuing with her education.  She is healthy and happy and enjoys playing with her younger sister and going to school.

Plan UK supported Childrens Day celebrations in Pha’ s district of Laos and more than 500 people took part.  They have also supported the building of 12 new nursery schools in various villages and supplied stationery, toys and art materials.

Oussam is 5 years old and attends a pre-school.  He has had basic vaccinations and is healthy.  This year, his sister has gone to live with other relatives so Oussam now lives with just his parents.

This year in Niger, Plan UK have provided training for community health workers, raised awareness of the importance of education and provided school supplies.  They have also spent time raising awareness on hygiene, sanitation and the use of water.
